This is a high-quality reproduction of a vintage drawing of the Toothless Salmon "Salmo edentulus" by Marcus Elieser Bloch, famous 18th century German naturalist and ichthyologist zoologist. Bloch Prints are in high demand with originals from his comprehensive work 'Allgemeine Naturgeschichte der Fische' selling for hundreds of dollars each at auction. Several of his drawing are featured here and could make a thoughtful set in your home or office.
Salmo edentulus, described by Bloch in 1794 was later determined to be the same species as Salmo cyprinoides described by Linnaeus almost 30 years prior and was later put in a different genus, Curimata. SO depite the common name, it is not a member of the Salmon family.
